Bringing home a brand-new baby is one of the sweetest, most tender seasons of life. This neutral newborn session in my studio in River Falls was all about slowing down and soaking in those early days together. As a fellow mom, I really value providing this space for other postpartum women. I know it’s such a blur, and you deserve to freeze some time. You can look back at these images when you’re not sleep-deprived and want to remember these moments.
Soft light poured in against the clean white walls of the studio, and simple drapery I love to use for infant sessions. Everything felt calm and airy. We chose a light color palette so the focus would stay right where it belongs: on their connection as parents, and their beautiful new baby.
Mom wore a soft, ivory dress with delicate shoulder ties and subtle texture through the bodice. It photographed so beautifully against the bright studio backdrop. And it was the perfect option for postpartum moms! (Here’s a similar one if you’re eyeing it!) Dad kept it classic in a white henley and light khaki pants. Their outfits complemented each other perfectly without distracting from the tiny details of their little one. Baby was styled in a simple knit wrap and neutral bloomers.
Those tiny fingers and the soft swirl of hair. The peaceful expression when they drift off to sleep. These are the details that change so quickly, and I want to capture them for every mom! If you want to see more examples of this, here’s another sweet newborn photo shoot from the studio recently!
From there, we moved into portraits of each parent with their sweet baby. Mom cradling her little one close to her chest. Dad holding baby securely against him (and grinning a classic dad-grin!!) There is something so powerful about documenting those individual bonds in these first few weeks.
Of course, we also captured family portraits all together. That is always a part of my newborn photo shoots! These two were so sweet and in-love. Laughing as baby stretched and blinked up at them. The joy was just palpable!
These early days can feel like a blur, but taking the time to document them creates something lasting. Images that will hang on walls and be flipped through in albums for years to come.
